Is there a specific "macro" setting? I found that my Nikon would appear to focus very close objects without being switched to macro, but that results were unacceptable unless I actually DID switch to marco. Just a thought. It's a pity that you have got the biting sharpness that would have transformed this from good to excellent.

what a kind of fungus!! is interesting. Is there a litle motion? or out of focus problem?
but is so interesting the colour and texture! good composition
