The original was pretty washed out from too much backlight. Even with levels adjustments, the color wasn't as soothing as the B&W. But the main reason I tried B&W was a good suggestion by Ricardo Villagran.

Kevin, I definitely like this one better than the original even though I normally prefer color landscapes. The details brought out on the banks I think are a big improvement. How did the color one look with level adjustments, did something wash out that made you decide to convert to B/W?

I agree with the lack of "umph", I think it is the lack of symmetry in the trees. That said I like the serenity of this photo. The trees are almost silouhettes because I was shooting straight into the sun (Removed the lense flare with PS). Interestingly, you can see what I believe are ghosts of the polarizer from the lense flare in the sky, see how it has a circular gradient?
Anyways, thanks for your comments.

Hello Kevin
I find this very similiar to my "Small Blue Pond" which you just viewed, accept in B&W. I find the similarty amazing. Good range of tones.

I prefer the B&W but composition lacks a certain "umph" - know what I mean?

normally I prefer colour for landscapes, I think the emotions that nature radiates are better reflected in colours =) but your foto is strange because somehow I like it more in B&W. I don't really know if it's because of the sensation of silence and peace, but somehow I don't think that this particular foto "loses impact" being in B&W..very good work Hugo
