Barry, in the meantime I've experimented with cranking up the contrast. IMO there's a decided improvement. Thanks for your very useful feedback. (-:

Nice shot, well spotted and good composition, but I can't help but think that the lighting is a little flat for this to work as a B+W image.

It really needs to be a bit more contrasty to give it back the punch of the colour version.
