This series is also a result from our photography workshop at Zollverein (http://www.zeche-zollverein.de) One of the assignments was to make a series of 5 characteristic elements in the area of this former coal mine. This is number two - the two cooling towers near the coking plant. The towers are in a decrepit area, there are no plans yet to restore this (probably polluted) part. Entering the area is not allowed, as I learned the hard way :) But from a hill side I had a good view on the towers through the trees. In the series I used the omnipresent vegetation as a connecting element. It is trying very hard to overgrow everything and to wipe out all traces of the past. I photographed the 'two towers' also earlier this year, from a different viewpoint (see http://www.usefilm.com/image/117583.html )
This is also a lovely shot - the strong dramatic contrats work wonders... I've never tried to take shots of trees before against a big sky, but this gives me inspiration to give it a go. Well done Hermen, I like your portfolio Cherie
This is beautiful and very graphic - like a dark coal drawing - I love the heavy veins of the trees seeking to wipe out the towers - organic versus geometric.
