This brings back memories! I've not only worshipped in many churches like this, I've even had the honour of preaching in several of them while I was undergoing my theological training/education in Scotland. In those days, 40 years ago, the rather grim and forbidding exteriors were already housing interiors in beautiful bright pastel chords of colour. I found it a quite astonishing--and delightful--contrast. A bit like the contrast between grim Calvinist theology and the bright and beautiful souls of so many who hold to it. If you're not familiar with the insides (for whatever reason) it might be worthwhile poking you head around the door. Forgive me if this comment is out of place.
