About During my latest (and last) sojourn to Bargain Bay, I wanted to capture a magnificent sunrise. Unfortunately the weather (and to be honest, my internal clock) didn't cooperate. On my second-to-last morning, I woke up, peered out the window and grumbled at the lack of magnificent oranges and pinks. Then I looked again. The bay, which had been assaulted by a rain storm the night before, was perfectly still and the overcast sky hung very quietly above the water. It had a tranquil beauty of its own, so I took two photos from my bedroom window.

Once again, I tried black and white and different tones, but the original true colour is what I'm most partial to. I didn't sharpen the photo as it seemed to betray the mood. I don't even think I adjusted any levels here. The only PhotoShoppery would be some cloning out of debris that had washed into the bay. I suppose the island on the right could use a bit of detail; hopefully the silhouette isn't too overpowering.

Becky, I like both pics, but I think the horizontal one is a little more appealing.
Nice capture, very well done.
Regards from Argentina.

Calm before the storm...
Tranqulity at its best
Maybe next time you are able to catch the sunset or sunrise.

Great feeling of peace and tranquility. I like this crop better than the other- more balance, and therefore in keeping w/ the mood and tones.
Very well done.
Regards, David

I smile when I compare this to your previous submission which was all vertical lines - now we have an abundance of horizontal lines :-) I particularly like how the distant shore is paralleled by the top of the line of clouds. The subtle shifts in value vertically really captures the sense of that calm morning. The main (top) image is definitely my favorite, not only because it emphasizes the horizontals (without overdoing it), but also because I think maybe you are showing too much of the foreground anyway. It is a very calming scene and everything works in your favor to convey that emotion.

On my monitor there is some detail in the island on the left.... and I really enjoy the (again) calmness and peacefullness of the blue tones in this image. The stillness of the water adds to this mood and creates an image that a person could get lost in. Mount this on your wall, and whenever you need to escape just stare into it! I like both of the images... the original post is a more conventional layout with great toning, while the attachment is unique in its presentation and loaded with calm waters.
Love them both, and don't say that this is your last trip here.... never say never! *grin* Happy snowy day!

Compositionally, I definitely like the one you posted better - mainly because of the island on the left, which gives a nice balance to the shoreline on the right, both in 'mass' and in hue... This does have a lovely serenity to it with the original colors and intensity! I like the contrast of the dark land masses in the foreground with the bluer hills on the horizon, and the blurry reflections in the water add a lot to the mood. The only thing that seems a little 'off' is the yellow tinge in the upper corners - maybe just because the color is not even across the sky? Overall I think this is a really beautiful and understated photo!

Becky, lovely and so serene, and I agree sharpening would spoil the mood somewhat. I'm going between the 2 images, this one is probably the more conventional, but for me I think I like the portrait composition a little more. Can't explain why! :)

Thanks for your insightful comments on my images, I appreciate that very much.

PS
Ummm, not sure now, I like em both!

This is the second photo I took. I really don't know which composition I like better.
