Thank you very much for your thoughtful reply. I am learning photography, and without detailed critiques such as this one, I'll never get better. I appreciate it!
Hi Effie. I like the subject you have here (though I would say it's closer to 'Landscape' than to 'Street'). I like that you have selected black and white for it. The low point of view and the composition look good, with the symmetrical placement of the two central bridge supports.
The sky is where I think the photo could be improved. The first and preferred possibility would be to visit this place on a day with distinct clouds, and reshoot. If you do that, you could also try some longer exposures (using a tripod) for a nice flowing effect in the water (and the sky, if the clouds are moving reasonably fast).
Another possibility, using the current photo, is to present this with a black border. This would serve to separate the white of the photo's sky from the white of the surrounding page.
One more option to consider would be to do a crop the photo using a 3:2 aspect ratio (something like the attachment below), which would lessen the amount of sky. However, you should only do this if you are content with focusing more attention on the lower part of the photo, the bridge and the river, and losing the feeling of unrestricted space above the bridge.
As I mentioned earlier, this image suggests some good B&W seeing. If you find that shooting photos like this one gives you satisfaction, consider shooting proper B&W film for even better results.
