A cave entrance is located just to the left of the waterfall in the dark recess just above the surface. This pool and waterfall are normally nearly dry, but a sudden downpour of heavy rain can produce this scene in as little as two minutes! The water level has risen about 20ft from normal. Not surprisingly this cave is the scene of many rescues!
The exposure was at the limit for the film speed being used. A slower film would have been useful. I did take more shots at faster speeds, and as Artie says, I think any slower would have definately reduced the 'strength' of the water, after all it was a very violent flood. Regarding the walls around the pool, the lighting is much better in the original print. A re-scan may be in order.
I like the power of the water here, while I understand Vlads point...softening it might lose some of its strength...however I agree with JS on the light...not only for the sky but for some of that shore line...the framing is really good and strong however...good job under the prevailing conditions Andy
Nice composition. I like the way the water fans out and spills into the forground. One suggestion would be to take this shot during sunrise/sunset or when the light has more mood. The "white" sky detracts from this image.
