I feel the spotlight effect adds that extra to the image...a little crop from the bottom should not harm that effect though...a beautiful composition and well-deserved editor's choice.

You possibly should crop the most of that dark bottom area to get a more compact composition. Also, a bit unlucky with the head just touching the black horizontal line.
