Many thanks for your comments and observations of my photos.
I use the Canon 300D with the 100-300mm, 28-135mm IS or the 18-55mm (kit) lenses. For the gazelle, I was at the limit of the 300mm. With the 1.6x factor of the 300D, it was at the equivalent of 480mm. Cropping gave it the apparent 800mm long lense appearance that you detected.
The minimal DOF test was keyed to the usefilm project and the "first use of the the brand new lense."

This is really so cute and lovely! Excellent portrait! Excellent lighting and ....you write this was a DOF test? Well.... I find it like a pro job! This cannot be a test Luther! The background is out of focus strongly because if the focus at your main object goes to perfect, the background looks like that! I also be impresed with the 300mm! Only 1-3?
I can say this looks like an.... 800mm photo with the quality of a ......macro!!!!!!!!
