Lena, I like the image. It is a challenge to capture the moon and a star together. This is very similar to one I recently posted from my trip to St. Louis. I didn't have a star to work with. Regards, Mike

O, yes, you're right John, I am sorry, I forgot to tell about speed. In number One it was
800. In second photo - 400 speed, shutter - 1/2, ap. f-5,6

Nice exposure! I like the brunches even little bit blur because (perchaps) of the motion of them. The star somehow looks pretty big! Can be this at only 2sec and f5.6? It is really interesting about the ISO you use here.
Personaly I like better the second one becauser of the position of teh brunches.

Elena,
That is the Moon and Venus in your photo. Nice composition. The branches add quite a bit to the photo.

The "rays" from stars seen in most astrophotos are caused by light reflecting from the spider vanes holding a telescopes' secondary mirror in place. To get a decent photo of a star with any type of equipment, including camera only, you need a drive that will move the camera to compensate for the earth's rotation, and expose for quite some time. Usually this is done by mounting a camera "piggyback" on a telescope with a motor drive. Of course if you do this with the moon in the picture, you will have a hugely overexposed photo.

I also thought it was something special to see the moon and a star as close to each other as to be captured together. I did try to get them bigger but then it was not possible. Either I would capture the moon, which was an amazing beauty or the star (see this photo too - doesn't it look like a perfect banana?). As a whole image, I like the one you posted better but I like the moon better in the other photo you added cause it is more clear.

What a lovely image! I like the shape of the moon and the little star shining next to it
I saw a resambling image of the moon and the same star last night, but they were both high in the sky (check my pic) too far away to be captured properly with a simple camera.
You'd done quite a nice job, Lena. The tree with the red glare really add to the image.

Lena, good image. Thank you very much for dedication! Spooky. I have couple similar images to this one. To get moon and star at the same time on image is incredible luck! Don?t matter rays or not. Problem is that light amount from star(stars) are so little compare to moon, that what you want to proper exposure to moon ---> will loose stars. And opposite, with stars moon will be overexposed and be more like bright sun. I'll post examples if you don't mind.... Also, if you want to see rays, need to use smaller aperture and overexpose image....
