About Taken during our Usefilm weekend in Drenthe. The backlight was very strong in this shot, so this came out almost black & white...

Classic Hermen layers...I feel that the blur on the foreground here is interesting but difficult - it works in this image only if the viewer is willing to leap past it so to speak...

hermen, i agree with you: cutting the lines in the foreground might take out the originality of this landscape. great control of light.

Thank you for your comments...

Don: I like the stripes in te foreground, I think it adds to the composition...
Not really possible to get it sharp, I was already at aperture f/8 and stopping down further would decrease overall sharpness.

Titia: It is the church of Rolde, taken on our way back from shooting the sheep herd.

Hugo: I added exposure information. I did not overexpose, maybe I should have done it; I think the image was a litte underexposed but I corrected that in post processing. Actually, I am not sure about the tripod now that I retrieved the exposure information from my camera... When shooting landscape, though, I often use a tripod, even if it is not really necessary considering the shutter time. In some way, it helps me to make a more careful composition.

Hi Hermen, I think the out of focus foreground is quite important to this photo, as it stresses the wideness of the field. Considering the backlight, I think this photo is very well exposed; very good contrast between the various levels, and the bluish tone expresses the frost and the coldness in the (early moring?) air very well. Nice landscape, and a very well balanced composition. Did you overexpose to compensate the contrast in the shady areas? It would be nice to complete the technical settings; it gives more insight as to why you used a tripod, the f4, and so on. Nice work, though, my compliments!

Cheers,

Hugo

OH WOW I like this shot very much Hermen. Must have been on the road to or from Drenthe I think, because there wasn't that much snow in Drenthe.

Beautiful trees.

Very difficult lighting. I might crop the bottom portion that looks out of focus. Don.
