About
I had just been loaned this camera at the beginning of 1998 so was naturally excited to take it on a test run, before my travels abroad. The laneways of Northcote and North Fitzroy were to be my first destination with this superb camera. This part of a garden gate in an iron fence at a lane head always pushed me over for it's resemblance to the German Bauhaus school logo. Just at the very second I was to photograph it I heard a very definate, and rather pompus, man's voice say "Do you usually photograph through people's fences". Odd since I wasn't pointing my camera through the fence and more odd I didn't know where this authority was comming from. I proceeded to photograph and then he repeated his lawful claim. "No!" I told the voice. "I don't normally photograph through people's fences". This was true although from his point of view I could have been spying on something? "Why are you making a picture through somebody's fence" the voice from where I was still not sure of it's origin said once more. Hesitantly I made the picture you can see above after explaining very briefly that I was making a picture of the fence and certainly not spying. The voice replied reluctantly with a "Emm", and still not revealing it's body. Strange I thought that he did'nt want to show himself, where ever he was, who was spying on who!
great commentary ... and ... I see two faces in this one -- the small dark female head in the upper right (eye) and the center Bauhaus face running down the center --- Good comp....great absract !! K
