About Marin county (just north of San Francisco) is filled with amazing views and scenery. I often take drives through the rolling hills and along the rocky coastline. Each trip something new always catches my eye. When I caught this view I knew I had to capture it on film. I hope you enjoy it.

More of my work can be seen at http://www.artbeacon.com/jmg-galleries/ if interested. Thanks for your time and comments.

Jim, you wrote "hope you enjoy it" - are you crazy? I love it. This is magic light! Great the touches of light on the rolling hills - really giving them some definition. +6 from me :)
Thanks for your recent comment. Yes i knew the highlights of the bird were a bit blown, but i'd only had the camera in my hand for about 1 hour and i was just itching to take some pics - do you know the feeling?
Best wishes - Neil

Gorgeous light... an instant favorite. Each mound has such great backlighting, giving this image row upon row of depth. My eye travels back and forth throughout, eating up all the detail.

As well, the gradiation in the sky is lovely... gives it more colour as well as more character.
Great choice with the Velvia... it brings this to life.

I like the square composition and the horizon placement, Jim. The rim lighting on the hills is fantastic.

Hi Jim, The striking light is beautiful. (obviously, as is the scenery) The way the light accentures the hills and the grass in the foreground through the slight haze is just perfect. Very subtle light, and extremely well exposed. I'm wondering what a slightly higher horizon, with just a little less sky would do; not that it makes much difference, but it might just create a bit more balanced composition. It also would introduce an almost monochromatic effect, which would make the atmosphere a bit stronger. It goes without saying, that this is just my oppinion. I would like to know what camera settings you've used, if you over exposed a few stops and so on; it would help greatly appreciating your work!

Cheers,

Hugo
