City - Gruyeres State - FRIBOURG Country - Switzerland
About
I grew up not so far Gruyeres, that's Gruyere in the state of Victoria, Australia! Infact I didn't even know of either places' existance until mid 1985 when at Croydon High School, that's Croydon in the state of Victoria, I was introduced to an exchange student from Switzerland. It happened that he came from near the village of Gruyeres, home of the world famous cheese by the same name which is commonly one important ingredient to making a genuine fondue. About 2 years before this chance meeting up with my Swiss friend I had a small, found, poster image on my bedroom wall, common sense told me that it was taken in Switzerland. It was of a twin peaked mountain scape. Since it was untitled it's precise location I didn't know of at all. So a kind of nice small coincidence followed me up over ten years later when I first visited Switzerland in 1994, to catch up with my old school friend living in the charming city of Fribourg, one hour away from Gruyeres. Here I experienced a white Easter morning. Later in the day, in the town of Bulle, my friend's mother decided that there was one place I must see and that was Gruyeres. After apfelkuchen with double cream on a cafe terrace we had a look through the village's splendid castle. Then it was out onto the terrace to view the mountains. There and then I was hit by instant deja vu, as right before my eyes was that very same mountain scape which I had had a poster image of ten years earlier. So there it is, some things come back to you even if you were never once really there.
