John, my Voigtlander(s) are the modern Japanese ones, not the original German ones made by the company that went bankrupt. The lenses sold under this brand are really excellent. Leitz (Leica) class or very close to it at a fraction of the cost... Most of my non-panorama shots are taken with 21mm, 35mm or 50mm Voigtlander lenses...

ah temples my favorite you hit my soft spot stunning great job. Roger I just noticed you shoot a Voigtlander I had one back in the mid 70's I won it in a card cam I loved it but had it stolen 1 year later John

Beautiful oriental sphere, nice sharpness and wonderfull color balance. The way it is composed creates depth. Have a good Easter, Roger.

Keith, as you guessed, the original composition had the path leading in from the lower LH corner, but this gave great open areas of foreground "lawn" that quite unbalanced the image--this is the bane of using really wide-angle lenses. I'm not too happy with the composition, but I do think it works quite well as a panorama of record.

Chris, I found the very high contrast of the original a bit over the top but I agree I have overdone the toning down process. I blew it!

Yes one of your very best shots of Japanese life. I think thats because it conforms to the stereotipical image of a Japan which we in the west hold.
For me the, the only thing I can see which could be improved here is the way the path joins the frame from the centre. I know thats because you cropped the image, but the ideal would have had the path entering from a corner. Its difficult because you will have composed the image for a full frame, and then cropped later which has upset the original compositional work.
However, having said all that I do like it very much.

Hi Roger, I think this is a very good crop. It gives a very good view of the scene. The two people do liven up the atmosphere, how weird that may sound considering your comment. I like the lighting, the shadows create a good sense of depth and dimensions.
As I mentioned in my email, I find your images of Japan fascinating. This is definately one of my favorites.... Well done!

Great scene, Roger, but almost too sharp a picture!
It also looks a shade lacking in contrast.
Works well as a panorama though.
