Thanks Ian, I appreciate all input. I rather like the thorns myself, although I see what you mean. As to the leaf, yes: maybe I should have cropped it out. What I liked about this image is the U-shaped frame of blurred leaves below, kind of framing the rose.

Nice DoF, Good colour.

I'm just not sure about the composition. I think it's the thorns on the LHS and the reflections on the leaf in the top RHC that lead the eye away from the Rose. Just my 2c.
