I think that the compression has softened up the image, however it could also be that in Macro mode the depth of field is not great enough to keep the whole flower in focus.
Hi David, I see you use the C5050z too.... Quite a handy camera, but I think changing the camera settings is too complicated.... but 5 Mpix is excellent. Nifty little thing.
Although I'm not much into florals, I like the lighting alot. It brings out the texture in the blossom perfectly. I do find the photo a bit soft, as if out of focus. The composition is a bit too focused on the top, and I think cropping out the lower part fairly close would create a stronger and better balanced image.
