City - Hiroshima State - HIROSHIMA-KEN Country - Japan
About
One of the world's most visually well known ruins is undoubtably Hiroshima's so called A-Dome. Of course the building got this name after the 6th August 1945 Atomic bombing of the city. The building dates several decades early and was an exhibition hall designed by a Czech architect. This image was taken near the sight of the bombs epicentre. I can always remember when growing up seeing those old archival films from the 1940s. Some were in colour with such faded colour and this is the effect I tried to create here.
I am often moved by how photography can be used to show a point in history and perhaps at the same time make a commentary about human existance. You have done both here and I believe done it well. I would like to have seen more detail in the statue as well, but I understand how it was hard to get that and keep the rest. I think David McClenaghan was close. A powerful photo!
Hi sean. I like the combination of the building and the statue. It certainly is the most recognisable ruin on earth :( Not sure if its just me, but i want to see a bit more detail in the statue as I find it quite fascinating as well. Cheers
