About Inspired by Degas' famous statue - except that this model (my granddaughter) is much prettier than his was. This is a long comment: the diefference between PhotoSig and UseFilm is that here on UseFilm, people are a hell of a lot nicer, but there, if someone deigns to comment, he or she usually goes to some length to point out what one could have done better, whereas this isn't the UseFilm way. Why do I mention this? Because I submitted this and the following two images on PhotoSig and no one commented at all, despite my request for advice. So, UseFilm friends, please let me know what you think of this and particularly the cropping at the edges, which is what Degas did and what we photographers normally don't like to do. Should I have left the foot in or should I have cloned it out? Please advice and thanks in advance.

Thanks for the comment. The adorable little dancer is my adorable granddaughter. I do have other poses of her with a better background, but this was the one which came closest to the pose of the Degas statue. I may try again next week.

Definitly cuter than any Degas painting. I agree with Amy about the crop, let your granddaughter be the focus. Really good use of window light.

Hi, Win!

Now, I am by no means an expert. I feel a little funny giving "advice" to you after seeing some of the shots in your portfolio. That said, here's my opinion:

I would have cropped or cloned out the other dancer's foot, I think. Even better, if you have a chance, would be to get your adorable little dancer in front of a different background. You might also try to focus on her and let the background blur - I think you can add this effect in PhotoShop, too, though it's not something I've done myself.

The strengths of this photo are obvious: a beautiful model very into what she's doing, pink striped socks, and natural light.

Hope this helps!
Amy
