I think it's nice, but I wouldn't classify it as a portrait per-say, it's more of a glorified, but good snapshot.

I bet you keep your own stash of film just to control the aging process too. Great shot of your boy - the from above kind-of-wide angle really is prefect here. That little detail on the grass could use some cloning but no big matter.

Hi Carlheinz, thanks for the reply. Vignetting! That's the word I was looking for. The reasons you mention for using film are exactly the considerations I have. I did buy a digital addition to my collection of cameras, and although I probably will take more shots with that one in the near future, my heart will still be with film. The most extreme cameras I have are a couple of ME Supers and a medium format Yashica.

The analogue areas you mention do have my interest, but I think that'll have to wait till I'm retired to find the time.... For now, I find creating a well balanced (and in my opinion) good photo challenging enough to achieve without Photoshop, and apart from the occasional pushing / pulling of films to add grain and some long / multiple exposure shots, I don't consider myself enough of an expert to pursue more extreme areas, although I completely agree with you that trying new things keep you / me going. I think that also has to do with a technical background (and maybe a creative line of work)

I'm glad that comment showed up after all...

Cheers,

Hugo

Hey Hugo! First of all, your comment on one of my Holgas showed up all of a sudden. Thanks for it! I always appreciate your comments, BTW.
Regarding the film and the Camera. I'm still working mainly analog and that's for a good reason. How can you get grain? Working under low light conditions? Doing x-prossesing? Fooling arround with expired film? if not analog. For me there are still a lot of good reasons to stick to analog. I didn't even mention pinholes; my next big project. Or IR? Didn't even touch this area. Analog has still a lot of great possibilities in areas where Digital has nothing to offer, however in the next months I will get a digital SLR, too.
Since I'm back to photography after a loooong break, I know the key for me, is to try always new things. That keeps me moving and I'm confident that variety makes you stronger and better.
The Lomo is a nice small viewfinder camera with a good light meter. The vignetting and the blur in the edges "comes" with this camera. That's the camera now, which is always on my side, loaded with some funky film, of cause.
Take care! Carlheinz

Hi Carlheinz, Your comment intrigues me. First a holga and now a over date film? Did you load your camera with this film deliberately? (I've been quite busy lately, so I haven't been able to retype the comment on the holga, yet... Asked Al if he could retrieve it, though) As with the Holga, I had to check the internet to find out about the Lomo LC-A. I'm guessing it's not only the out of date film and PS that created this effect.

Original angle, and again the interesting contrast between the actual scene and the photographic representation of it.

The close crop on the top and bottom side fit perfectly with the scene, and the tone, excessive room on the left and right hand side as well as the circular gradient to black (What's that photographic term in English again?) create the mood in it.

Very inspiring and creative... It makes me want to experiment with the extremes in film photography (compared to my postcard style) more...

Cheers,

Hugo

Yeah never stop using film!! This pictures is so cool. the smile of the little guy is so cool and the angle you choose make all the difference. The idea of using old film to get cool effect is a great idea and I will try this. anyway this pictures is one of my favorite everything is cool angle, color, subject, smile, etc.. continue man.

Hey Thilo-bro! Believe it or not. I'm buying expired films on purpose. Gives you strange effects and surprises. Do that with digital! HA!!!
Cheers! Carlheinz
