Life and death, dramatically captured here in not so subtle ways. Very powerful image. You have to think now of your own life and death after seeing this and how death is honored/celebrated all over the world. Nicely done! Bill

chris,
i visited this place when i was like 13 with my family. I am 28 now and i still vividly remember this place. For many hindus its a privilage to die in places like this. There are couple of other places in india which are very holy for hindus.. Banaras and ghaya in UP, in India. Old people come over here hoping that they will get in to heven if they die in places like this.. i was shoked to see there were places where dying ppl can come and stay for months waiting to die in that places. being a hindu I did not even think if it right or wrong... only thing i know is when they die they die hoping to get in to heven.
I dont know how you felt in that place but when i visited these places, kind of unknown feeling ... makes you think about your life and death sorry i could not put this in words... i felt the same way (a little bit) when i saw your photo..
great work..

Incredible journalistic capture. Time and National Geographic magazine quality. Vivid colour and intense expression on the painted face of the man. A very different culture brought to us in this dramatic image.

Chris, this is the perfect photo, but honestly I got really upset looking at this and usually this does not happen to me...I am really very shocked, I have to tell you this with honesty...
