Linn,
Droughts are no picnic. We've had fairly good rain in this area for several years, but there were several years in a row when water was rationed, so I know how hard that is on plants. It's such a shame to lose them when you spend so much time nurturing them. And two rose gardens! oh my, that would just break my heart!
What a great idea to find your subjects at nurseries, though. The pots and price tags would be hard to shoot around, I agree; you obviously have done a great job of getting the best angles without any of those distractions.
Regards, Anne

Hi Anne Sadly, no. South Africa has had a couple of dry summers. I have a very big yard and to irrigate/water is not only time-consuming, but expensive as well. I lost two rose gardens over the past couple of years (one was entirely pink, is that any surprise? ) and since then have only concentrated on keeping my evergreen shrubs and trees alive and prospering.
Since beginning this year, we have had good rainfalls but we are now into our Autumn with no more rain (in the region where we live). I sewed some seeds into two patches - will be mainly daisie type flowers in autumn colours, but at least that will give me some colour in the garden, as well as an opportunity to shoot my own flowers.
So - I buy some of my flowers from florist shops, but mostly I go out to nurseries and shoot there. The owners don't mind at all and I have a total blast. Only problem shooting at nurseries is that you have the price/name tags and black bags and even white polysterene planters to deal with and try keep out of the image. Oh ... and of course the walkways are always wet and muddy - so I always get home with dirty clothes :-)
Regards Linn

Linn,
Another beautiful flower -- I like the way the touch of green is peeking through in the middle, and the brown/red background sets off the orange petals nicely.
Are all the flowers you photograph from your own garden?
Regards, Anne

Beautiful colour and light and I think the selective focus really makes the image. I really like the way all those petals create some lovely textures. Regards, Graham.

Dear Linn, thank you very much for your kindly feedback. Our nature and especially the flowers are so beautiful and perfect. I'm always trying to capture such moments ...
Unfortunately I haven't enough time for my hobby (it's always a challenge between family, job ...and hobby) but I'm working on it ... and I'm sure over the upcoming weekend I'll have the chance to capture some impressions. Have a great day.
Regards, Gerry

Brilliant orange colour, Linn. Good macro, but I personally would prefer the sharp petals to be in the front. Kind regards, Chris
