I LOVE THE FEEL OF THIS IMAGE, BEAUTIFULLY PRINTED, HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE COMMENTS ABOUT CROPPING THOUGH. lOOKING AT IT, WOULD THIS WORK BETTER IF TAKEN FROM AN EVEN LOWER ANGLE? TO MAKE THE ROUNDABOUT REALLY DOMINATE? NONETHELESS, A GOODY. KEVIN
Until I enlarged the image, I thought the subject was the building. I crop images tightly when the details are most important. In this case I would have tried another angle which wouldn't have shown the entire building, maybe half of two buildings, and lessened their importance. I love the black and white. Give me a darkroom!
Hi Mary, yes I have a color version, but the building is white, roof dark old shingles,, merry go round is white and metal, no real colors anywhere to enhance the image :( mabey Ill take another look at this subject, and see if perhaps another time of day or perspective might help me pull this one off, its an era long gone now, and just wanted to capture it for a moment for those who never saw anything like this..
Marty, glad you explained your pof. Looking at the image, your subject (merry go round) is overwhelmed by the larger building. The eye is drawn away from the subject, up the side of the building, and to the rooftop. Given the concerns you listed with the scene, you did a good job of isolating the merry go round, but still...my eye wanders. Do you have this in color too?
This is cropped a bit tightly. But it reminds me of the old merry go rounds I use to play on as a child. I only went to one school that looked like this. I'm almost young enough not to have been aware of this sort of school housing, but just...The shaky, wooden floors and all..Like I said I only went to one and it was odd as to how I ended up in a school like this, when all the others were brick. Glad I got the experience, and memory. It's funny now. I do remember the wooden merry go round tho. Splinters and all:)
ok, I see I should explain my cropping in this photo, as the closeness bothers some, as it does me :) my actuall subject here is the old merry go round, the school building was just there to lend support as to the old age of this thing, and as for the buildings cropping, this area has many various buildings in it, and thus this photo is showing the max room avaiable, without haveing another building in the frame, which would be very distracting..one would think this old building is out in an old open countryside or such, but unfortunatly, that isnt the case here :(...
Marty, the tonality is nice here. Is this the entire image or have you cropped down? It would be nice if you captured more of the left side of the building, and the top of the vane, or whatever it is above the cupola (sp). Although it seems like the camera is too close, I like the mood presented in this image.
