About This is the glass that contained the two preceeding images in my portfolio. This particular piece (Orrefors "Max" candleholder) refracts light in all kinds of directions making it possible to show how much is going on when there is only one narrow beam of light hitting it. This image was converted to b/w, and you are looking at the negative version of it.

Yes Becky - these are done in a dark room, usually with long exposures and only one lightsource. Thanks for stopping by - always interesting to hear your considered comments.

I didn't think I would like this photo from the thumbnail, as I felt including the refraction source would ruin the abstraction and the focus on texture and line. But! I like it alot! The unconventional shape of the candleholder accents the lines eminating from it, while solidly anchoring the photo. There is a great feeling of radiation and kinetic dynamism; I wonder if that would have been heightened if the shot had been taken with a bit of a tilt/Dutch angle.

Do you take these refraction photos in a dark room? Do you use light sources other than the one specifically pointed at the refraction object? Just curious. :)

Almost like a charcoal sketch, but it will stand on its own merits.

Hi Stefan, Now you really got me puzzled. Not artistically, nor about the quality of the shot, but about how you manage to create the effects you show us. Thinking at first it was somekind of veil, then converting back to the ink thing, and after reading your comment on the previous shot, I was back to the "veil believers" again. Seeing this Ink pot, I'm back to wet paper and a chromatographic effect. Very creative. Especially the negative version. Quite a cool effect. The concentric lines and the periferal circle around it make the viewer foccus on the glass. Good composition and an intriguing image.

Cheers,

Hugo.

PS: Thanks for your comment, I will reply to them if I have some more (spare) time. I appreciate them alot!
