Watch this space, Victoria. I may not be able to match the quality of your pic though. We sailed the inner passage doing all the usual tourist things but Glacier Bay and College Fjord were outstanding. Den

Thank you Den. I had a hard time trying to get my lab, scanner, and computer to show the right colours. I'm glad you like it. Where did you go in Alaska? Anything on usefilm from there?

Thanks Susan. I left a comment on my photo for everyone to read. I love your stuff, especially the sunset pics. How do you get such fantastic colors? They are very warming and make me miis the south. I'm originally from Texas myself. Clouds and blue sky are what I miss. The storms are fantastic out that way. Have you had any storm ops yet? ~Victoria~

Thank you all very much for the praises. And to try to answer the questions... I estimated that the glacier piece was originally 300 feet tall and estimating that the wave is approximately 1/5 of that. So, around 60-80 feet high. It was amazing to sit there while this was happening. The sound of the ice cracking was like a hundred glass bottles in a fire all exploding one after the other. When the piece finally calapsed, the sound was like the loudest thunder I had ever heard. The ground shook and vibrated from the deep base sounds of the crashing. The wave made its' own sounds. I could hear what sounded like rocks on an ocean beach, all rolling around together and then the crash of the wave onto the river. Large ice chunks were thrown across the river, each creating more splashes as they fell. If you are to go anywhere in the world, experience Alaska once in your lifetime. You'll remember it forever.

What an amazing thing to witness. Glad you captured it on film. How loud was it from where you were? How big were the waves?
