Admirable artistic restraint in the face of a subject so beautiful. Sentimentality is avoided by the broad, simple, tense composition. Nature is like that--colors don't bleed together. The danger of stridence between unclended colors is avoided because the basic colors each set off the others so attractively that one doesn't mind there being no great range of harmonics. The picture becomes more exhilarating the longer one lets one's eyes range over it.
