It was late evening and overcast. The exposure would have been 10+ seconds spot metered on the rock. Blue coloring would be from the overcast light and slight reciprocity failure of the film due to the long exposure. It took a few tries to get one where the bird didn't move.

Please, let me know whether I am wrong. I think that this image was taken in the last light of the day, with long exposure.
The result is really beautiful, It is like a dream image.

AWESOME scene, I've never seen a nice photo op like this before, and I've been to Laguna Beach many times. This is beautiful!
Wish you had more info as to what all you did, it's really NICE. Bet it would also look good in black and white!
