Nice shot. The Thin Blue Line is lifted from the "Thin Red Line" which was the British infantry's standard deployment against other infantry (two lines, one kneeling, one standing), as against the Napoleonic French habit of marching forward in great massed phalanxes. Metaphorically it is the thin line that is drawn between us and those who would harm us.
