About
Photo-construction and collage. Some found graffiti in Melbourne. 50 years before the appearance of the "Star War" bronze ikon-oid C3PO there was this creation from Fritz Lang's 1926 sci-fi classic "Metropolis". This robot design has not really outdated much at all unlike some others. It was the inspiration on many including the Terminator range of droids. Gone a little out of date there are others such as the superb Robert Kinoshita's - Robby the Robot from "Forbidden Planet" c1956, who actually appeared in an episode of "The Addams Family". Robby the Robot - made yet another appearance in the 1965 - '68 TV sci-fi series "Lost In Space" - as the Rover Droid! Robot (the B9) or that "Bubble Headed Booby" was also a Kinoshita creation. Who can forget all those low bedget designs from the British TV series of "Doctor Who". There there were the Daleks, the Cybermen and of course one can't forget the likeable, but rather poorly mobile K9. However who can remember, also from "Dr Who", the War Machines, the Quarks, Super Voc and in the end when they started taking some really good drugs c1987 - the Kandyman! I could rave on about robots in cult Movies and TV serials - Box in "Logans Run" with his collection of frozen birds; the very camp Hymie from "Get Smart" and here it is "Ready, Steady are you set? For Metal Mickey". Now come on you all remember this one don't you?
