About Another photographer had asked me about shooting lighting just the day before, and I had the wonderful opportunity of a large thunderstorm near my house that was growing, but quite stationary, so I decided to try to get some examples for her.

I took about 20 photos, and this was one of two that caught a bolt. I had my tripod and set my shutter for max (16 seconds).

During the 45 minutes I was shooting, there wasn't a drop, while it was pouring down about a quarter mile away. You can see the rain shaft lit up by the bolts. It was the rain shaft that kept obscuring the frequent strikes, but I finally tagged a couple, and headed home.

Hi Paul, The amazingly impressive sky makes this shot for me. The gushes of rain sweeping down are perfectly lit by the lighning, and the details and textures in the clouds are very well captured. Very strong capture.

Looking at the tone, I think the shot is a little over exposed, and I would've liked the bolts of ligtning to come out better with a darker background. Other than that, a very impressive shot!

Cheers,

Hugo
