About Especially for Linn Currie. My Daughter in a new hat she fell in love with... I told her Linn will LOVE this.. Now folks I am not a people photographer so be easy on me.. I stink at it... I chose f/3.5 for a soft background and on camera fill flash... I think next I'll try off camera fill to get up under the hat so the left side of her face it lit better... Overall I am most happy with this attempt as I really do stink at this type of image but am going to learn if it kills me!!

Well, don't be too hard on yourself. Most of us would be very happy with a result like this. Given such a beautiful model it is well worth the effort! Don't expect too much of on-camera flash, though...

Beautiful girl. Try using your macro lens at f/3.5 instead of that zoom.

Hi John
Yes, I love it :-) I can see she is a pink lover too and with her youth she can get away with the bright pink and really look good and refreshing in it :-) Tell her I say to nurture her love for pink - eventually there will be a world-wide phenomena when everybody will only love pink!

I know nothing about "human" portraits so won't comment on the technical aspects and crops. But what I do see (and love) is the natural smile and pose. I love that glint in the eyes and can just imagine how much fun you had capturing this image, and most of all how she enjoyed posing for this.

Like I did today by posting other-than-florals images, so did you by bringing us this delightful image ... well done.

Linn

Thank you Pam. After reviewing some of yours I'm flattered. Any helpful tips would be welcome... I'm also borrowing a friends 10D as I always shoot slide film... That is adding another learning curve factor... ugh...

Is having the right pony tail out of the image a bad thing? Should I have not cropped so tight and tried to include it? I know when I review others work (it's how I learn a lot) I like tighter crops and see that even cutting off some of the hat or head is really okay but I'm wanting feedback to help along the way.

So thanks for your kind reply but don't be afraid to dish out the nit picky critique as well. :)
