My friend, you are very perceptive!

They are not politicians, they are musicians, but I seem to remember there was a lot of (anachronistic) flag-waving after this photo was taken, particularly by the man on the left, who did appear to become more and more, er, coordination-challenged.

Maybe the silly uniform blazers?
A combination of beer and imperialism and disaffectation?

They were very good musicians, by the way: fun!
