Hi Rog Umm yeah like everything I do I see some weird association in my work to someone else?s and I like to stretch the punters by making some oblique reference to that in my title or somesuch. Jim in this case is Jim Clifford a Muswellbrook artist of some prominence died of AIDS a while back .. He went through a series of ocean paintings which were made by the marbling process but in Jims case writ large to whit 6? sq canvas The colours were oceans, breakers and waves and foam fantastic vision things great medium control and somehow there seemed a hint of this on this rather more miniature thing. I can?t find any references to him on a cursory search of the web but he was represented by Watters Gallery in Sydney. Max Watters another Mbk painter has about six or so in his collection, which is now housed in the Mbk Regional Arts Centre. Frank Watters Max?s brother is the director of Watters gallery in Sydney, which is where I purchased one of Jim?s sketches for the series. Speaking which the gallery opens tonight with an exhibition called Winners which is every winner of our Art Ceramic and Photography prizes, hung chronologically from 1958 to last years MPA?u should surf down for a look
