You could call a good decision luck... and it could indeed have anything to do with it, but....

Hi Sam, this was really a case of point and shoot. It was fully automatic, given the amountic of wine we had drunk :)
I knew that the scene was perfect, but I had been using a Speedlite earlier in the evening. As you can see from below, this just overblew things. I knew that it would be a slow shot, but I thought that the candle should confuse the exposure metre a little, if kept central. This is an occaision where a lower camera spec and luck just went hand in hand

this is a huge achievement, specially if you consider the noise sensiveness of the camera you shot it with.... did you post-process to get rid of it? Special compliments for the perfect white balance.

I agree absolutely with your use of candlelight here - flash would definitely defeat the mood. Good eye!

Thanks Dee - hadn't really thought about it before. I might see how it looks if I use Photoshop to edit the top points of light out. From memory, I think it must be the reflection of another candle against a glass cupboard door.

This is beautiful. It also reminds me of a Rembrandt. The mood is there. The only distractions is the small points of light at the top. Dee
