Peter, I like the original B&W crop just as it is. There is so much for the eye to absorb, textures, lines, but finding that umbrella for oneself is the prize (and lends a touch of surreality not so evident with colour) and I would say the last crop is too obvious.
Your instinct to go B&W was right on, no need to mess with it!

I love the bw version (the first one.) The textures are incredible. It gives so much more "oomph" to the feeling of abandonment. I like this a lot.

Yeah, the B&W is a good choice. Excellent framing, good choice of subject. Image almost looks over-sharpened... you might want to try in PS for a softer look. Maybe that's just personal taste, though.
