Marty, I heard this and another photo or yours got a bit ripped in a critique session. Not sure what was said, but I find them both beautiful. I don't know if I would change a thing on this one or the other one. Wish I had the eye to shoot stuff like this. I tried and blew it big time. Keep posting, would love to see more.

Sounds like I'm missing all the action in the LIVE sessions!...Is there an ass scale before entering? 20 pounds and I'd look like a monopod with a view camera on top....Marty...neat effect...but it doesn't strike me like your other work does....which also points to me you are still experimenting and creating which IS wonderful in and of its self...keep em coming like I know you will.

Marty, Since I know this was probably taken in your own home, I must say I love the antique look of the subjects. I was a bit suprised at the lighting, as yours seem to be the more warmer, darker sort of lighting. But this works for me. As for all the comments about Usefilm Live...I feel totally ignored, I'm not even on the Usefilm List of Who's Who. So, and yes, I have sent an e-mail asking for lighting set ups that Artie has given to everyone, so, know he has my e-mail address. Life goes on even if you can't seem to get in on the Who's Who list....Lot's o pictures and comments to learn here at the Usefilm site, so, I know I don't have any pictures to post to be commented on and I'm quite slow it seems at learning the techniques, but I thought that was what this site as well as the Live sessions were all about. Now that being off my chest..Will end my evening of commenting with your picture..Signing off..Till tomorrow:)

Hey Marty...glad to see your pic up!! And the ps'd image represents what you were trying to do much better than the one you put up in the live session.
We are all in here to help one another and we dont always do it tactfully I guess... or say the things the other person wants to hear...but we all care about each other *smile*
BTW...the rock on the table pic you are doing next...did you keep one of those rocks I threw at you a couple of years ago, or what??? *BG* Now that would be a humor shot...you in the corner with rocks all around you...*smile*...Maggie

You said Quote " it didnt end up the project I started out working on, but I thought it a very pleaseing still life piece"
I think thats exactly the point Marty..everyone's comments were that the image was really nice as a still life...AS IS...it was only when you described it's intent that most including my self felt it fell short of your intentions...but isnt that what you said in your quote....
Live is a bit of a rush...the quality of the work there is different...and those that got their worked ripped apart and yes by mostly me have come back vehemently with work to blow everyones socks off..examples: Mags....Beverly...Philip Filtz..Mary and Chris Hayward...Mike Allenbach...Our own loveable DATA BOY...Cal (by the way a full time pro)...Phil Cohen (who should be a full time pro)...Scotty...Lalitha...Alisa (My Personal Honey)...Hey Alex Tinsman (who has gotten more beat up than Alex by me in the past couple of weeks and she comes back the next time with an image and shoves it right up the ole wazoo)... Bill lange..Sai...Bill...... Live is about achieving the image that is salable...the perfectly lit, superbly composed, strong content image...the images that got "BALLS"...and the end result is striving for that goal...whether your intentions are to sell or not, the level is far more intense and those coming there are aware of it....The best of the site visit regularly so the coments are not wordy or flattering unless your image deserves it..... I honestly don't believe any body comes to the live session because they want me to bull shit them and not say what I really think...if that is your goal than it is not the place to be...but if you want to learn how or why than it is the place.... I never promised to be a sweet, old relative who is gonna sit back and say great...great...great...love it...want it for my wall...and all the other bull... I only promise to say what my experience dictates and what drives me...hey you can hate my guts but at least I can help you see better....and understand more...conjole you; no!...pamper you; not my nature...be honest with you; thats all I can do....I've made my mark & do it daily; I am just trying to help you do the same.......

Just wanna add one thing, which applies to EVERYONE.
Some art (photography included) is not meant for everyone, and is not meant to be admired by everyone. It can be meant for a select group of people (like your family) or even ONE person.
Not surprisingly, the masses' opinion is seldom considered when critiquing art forms.
And, of course, as you have all heard before, or should have... it doesn't matter what I think.. it matters what YOU think!
I'll say this again, one more time: I personally like to hear everyone's comment, good and bad, to broaden my perspective and to consider all of the comments every time when I go to "create" my next art form. My problem is that it's so hard to remember all of them!
Keep up the good work!

Having lost at least 20 pounds of ass in Live, believe me I feel you pain..LOL..but thats why we all go there isnt it? To become better photographers? Being an art major in college I studied the old masters too, and yes this is a very nice image artistically. Art in any form is such a subjective medium, think how boring it would be if we all liked the same thing...Now you will have to excuse me, I have a date with a baseball bat and lamp..lol

LOL@Marty! Yep, if you want only warm fuzzies, Live is probably not the place, at least for most of us. Since this is a self-portrait of sorts, definitely enjoy what you did. Now that you have received all the feedback from multiple sources, would you do anything differently? And I still want to know if the candle has special significance to you since many of the other things represent favorite things.
