Very nice shadow and detail - I like this sort of image a lot - - you talk below about sharpening - I have another method I use in PS that seems to really work well for me - I don't use unsharp mask that much now - If you are interested send me and e-mail @ Lra0x@yahoo.com and I can detail it back to you - I'd do it now but I don't have access to PS on this computer - the method I found seems to work really well with images with a lot of detail like this one - K

Well, I tried that. The image just seems to be too soft, period. I ran a fairly succesful unsharp mask pass after scaling it down. If I push the contrast, I seem to lose all the detail on the far left of the building. I don't know whether I was too far away to get good detail or whether the focus was just off. I'll try again on this building at some point.

What a great old building. This definately looks like the Portland Maine I visited a few years ago.
Your choice of monochrome is excellent. You might benefit from bumping up the contrast a bit to bring out the texture a little further. In any case, a sad and beautiful image.
