About
This photo is to thank David Muench for his inspiration when I got my first 35mm camera. At the time I took this photo in 1968, David was the premier photographer for Arizona Highways magazine. I met him earlier in the day when this was taken and he encouraged me to do a couple things; shoot lots of Kodachrome 25, use the "sunny 16" rule, don't be afraid to use a lot of film, be there early and stay late, document your camera settings, move up to the 8 x 10 format when I could, and always share information with other photographers. I can't say I've always done this, but I continue to try. The main difference between this view and the thousands of others is that the actual creek crossing was still in place at the time. Just as a reminder how tight transparency parameters are, this photo is over-exposed by 1 stop (1/60 instead of 1/30). Thanks again David.
I see this is very old photo. I think I try to do what your friend say to do. Where is this place? Sometime we must meet for I have many question for you. You have many photo of desert type location. Are these place near to San Diego?
Alison, thank you so much for your comment. It was especially meaningful learning that you used to live in the area. My parents still live on Oak Creek, about 15 miles down stream from the old crossing, in Cornville. Growing up in this part of Arizona was magic. I only wish I could give the experiences to my own children. I went browsing through your portfolio and I've seen some really incredible work there. I'll commenting on these wonderful works individually, in the near future.
This brings back great memories for me, I went to High school here at Verde Valley. We would ride through the creek all the time. Beautiful photo, an amazing place to take photos. Alison
