About The Blue Moon (07-31-2004) This was taken handheld with the 300D using the EF 75-300mm USM with the Image Stabilization ... It was then cropped in PS. Shot in Fredericksburg Texas, USA in a Motel parking lot.... High Tech stuff ... LOL

The phrase "Once in a blue moon" was first noted in 1824 and refers to occurrences that are uncommon, perhaps even rare. Yet, to have two full Moons in the same month is not as uncommon as one might think. In fact, it occurs, on average, about every 32 months. And in the year 1999 it actually occurred twice in three months. So this was the second full moon in July of 2004. you can find out more at www.space.com and tpye in blue moon unter the search within their site.

Thanks Mark, I sure you can do this also it was taken @ the full 300mm which is equivalent to 480mm on a DSLR. From what I gather the 1.6 factor to get it to 480mm is not digital so it?s really like having a 480mm zoom. I had acutely forgot about this pix but found them while cleaning up my Laptop last night. I?m glad I did cause I didn?t think for one moment that they turned out the way they did considering it was handheld. I have to give credit to the Image Stabilizer on the lens, It really does make a difference.
Good luck with your shot,
Stuart.

I don't know about hi tech stuff Stuart but it certainly is a hi tech result - it looks absolutely great :-)

The detail is incredibly rich, one of the first things I noticed is the moon is the "correct way up" - a similar photo taken with a reflecting telescope inverts the image of course :-)

Excellent photo !

Best wishes,
Steve

ok i cant stand it another minute. I want to get a good pic of the moon too. I use a similar lens on my nikon 70-300 and i cant get anywhere near this close. Is there some digital zoom as well? you people are killin me with your awesome moon shots...ok I am jealous. 7+ for this one.
