About A girl during her lunch break at a small school in an interior village in Gujarat. This village is cut off from technology, no television, no electricity. To make a phone call one has to travel thirty odd kilometers.

Hi Girish,
Thanks for your response. I like this picture because of the beautiful lightening, the warm colours and the angle.
Too bad you wrote your name in it. It distracts my eye from the picture.

This is such a serious and sad piece of work. One that should be shown. Such emotion on her face and her surroundings only add to that. Fantastic capture. G, thankyou also for your extremely flattering comment on my image. I was blown away.

It's a very interesting question you ask! The fact about all the shots on children are looking down on them. Most of them were shot at a remote destination in Gujarat, at a school run my missionaries. I am heavily influenced by the environmental portraits done by Steve McCurry, a couple of his shots of kids look down at them, for that reason, I experimented by shooting this entire series in that style. It is something that many have pointed out. Since then, I have made the extra effort to shoot (the same)subject(s) from several different heights, angles etc. Yes, there was a time I shot everything from my eye level only, but that has changed in recent times :). Thanks for your comments. Appreciate them :Girish

The best of the lot. The window (or door) light makes some beautiful modeling on the subject. This is an informal shot, but it would have been nice to have a reflecting surface of some kind to the left to put a little light into the shadow areas and separate the the girl's head from the background. It's interesting that all your pictures of children are made by shooting down on them. Is this a deliberate approach, or just the accident of never changing your camera elevation?

Yes, it is 800ISO film, but in fact pushed up to 3200 :) The distortion is because I used the 50mm lens tilted downwards from above the level of her head :) Cool eh?

it's hard to believe this was actually 800 speed film. and the lens..seems like there's some distortion too, common of wider angles...but hey, whatever! i love it and i wouldn't change a thing about this image.
