michael, fantastic composition! your perspective induces a "lean" on the barn away from the viewer and even gives it a 2 dimensional look. as if the barn is just a facade in the process of falling backwards. perhaps being held up for a moment by this dramatic sky. maybe an effect of the tight crop. i also dig your treatment to bring out the barn and it's textures.

regarding your question above: yes they do. i'm just trying to figure out why. ;^)

btw, thanks for your comments advice. very much appreciated.

take care,
tom

Good comments.

I can correct the tight croppping over time and shoot broader. Right now I am using a series of photographs I took for my brother who is an animator and needed reference photographs of barns. I'll try to get more of the landscape next time I get out.

The sky: I shoot with a polarizer, but yes, the sky was maked seperately from the barn and taken to a high contrast setting. It's way over the top from what you would expect to see from a normal photograph. I'll tone it down in the future.

Unfortunately, this barn was out in Arkansas, and I can't recall where it was. But there is no shortage of old barns out where I am.

I'm not sure why you're cropping these shots so tight. I've noticed it on some of the others. Love the sepia and texture detail on the barn, but would prefer to see it's enitre shape.

The contrast on the sky is a bit out of control. Do you use a polarizer or maybe a graduated ND filter.

You've got an excellent subject to continue to experiment with.

Regards
