About
last days in the sunshine, the cold breeze of autumn is gusting. Drying us, bitter winds will rip us from our nurture, in numbness we will fall lifelessly to the earth, our destiny awaits us. Once alone, our remains will rot beneath the snow. This is our fate.
Michael, thanks for the comment /complement and suggestion. Your suggestion is well noted, but like you said, it?s a push/pull thing trying to shoot nature sometimes. The one thing I wanted to add is, that?s not a digitally altered, I used a hoya r72 infrared filter for this shot. I did do a ?auto levels? on it and added the drop shadow frame in adobe though. other than that, it right off the camera. I?m going to try to do this again in the spring, next time I?m going to pose the shot, or at least shoot it on a less windy day so I can get a good macro out of it. Thanks again, Mike
By the way, I didn?t actually write that cheeseball gothicy poem thing, I did, but it was inspired by some other bad gothic poetry, so it?s not ?original? I guess. And I wanted to write something more than ?just another infrared picture of some leaves? ? ~Mike
I read your write up, and have to say I'm on the same path as you. I also went to the University of Michigan and I'm now in KS. Ah well.
Wanted to let you know your body of work is definitely gettting a lot crisper, so I think you are picking up some trade secrets along the way.
This photograph: + Technical. The seperation of channels to achieve an IR film look is really neat. The white leaves and darkened sky is counter intuitive and builds interest.
+ Levels look good. Great job if you modified the original.
The only suggestion I would have is to use the rule of thirds and get in tight on one perfect leaf as a foreground object. Even better would be to get a macro setting and pick up the veins with some beads of water. Then, try to maintain the dark sky background and resulting canopy.
Sometimes nature photography is a real push and pull of light/dark, rough/soft textures, and near/far distance.
You are definitely starting to find the unique photograph out the ordinary scene.
