michael, beautiful colors! great exposure. very nice interpretation. i dig your composition but i see how a fisheye would definitely make this one a completely different shot. reminds me why i lug one around everywhere i go. not very useful most of the time but you never know when it'll come in handy.
take care, tom

Really lovely composition and colors, Michael. I've only seen that kind of blue water one other place, and it's fascinating.
Also - enjoyed your tutorial on gradient masking very much, "bad" arrows and all. (Hey, they're functional.) Thanks for posting it. :)

This is a pool - a hot spring - filled with water heated by geothermic activity in Yellowstone. It is probably the most photographed pool.
The water comes out superheated and filtered, so it has amazing clairity - the light blue is the color of the water.
As the water cools towards the edge, heat loving bacteria grow, and the bacteria color cooresponds to the temperature of the water. The hot bacteria are yellow, then the colors go to orange, red, brown, and then black and green.
Let me know if you want to partner up on a photograph sometime. You can always e-mail me at mkanemoto at gmail.com.
