It is a very good portrait. However it is a pity that the girl was looking at you (or your big lense?). A "L" viewfinder will be very useful at this moment. Besides a 50mm or 85mm small prime lenses on your 300D will do better jobs in portrait photographing than Tamron 28-300mm.

Excellent portrait, wonderful use of dof. Al's treatment is wonderful, but I prefer yours. That said, what a treat to see the same scene through the eyes of 2 photographers. :) It's all good.

VERY nice portrait..in BW or other tone, still nice... the lighting was great! if there is a little bit more neck/shoulder showing, it would be better maybe? but this is great too!

Remarkable capture Cessy - but I disagree with you, you ARE very good at taking portraits :-)

This really is super, you have captured a fabulous expression, the lighting is good and the composition is super.

I love the B&W toning also :-)

Best wishes,
Steve

I agree, cessy, I like yours better. The only thing I can possibly come up with that would help are catchlights in her eyes. Impossible, of course, with the hat and the fact that you weren't in her face with a flash, lol! I love this portrait! Wonderful expression and spot-on composition, imo.

You're not good at taking portraits? Ha! It's hard to imagine doing this any better. And while Als version has its virtures, I do like yours better. The cooler tones go better with the haughty expression and I like it that you're not so close.' I think this is pretty much perfect.

Cessy, what a great face and hat. You asked so, here goes if you don't mine. What I did was crop, tad of soft focus, curves to brighten, applied Sepia Filter, tad of unsharpened mask, and tad of noise.
