Rebecca, most of my sepia images start out as color slides; I scan them and then desaturate and tone them in Photoshop. A few start as B/W negatives and are similarly toned in Photoshop--in my Vietnam portfolio, these include "Impassive", "Shy Boy", "Pots" and "Faces in the Market". They end up with a slightly different look.
