Hi Dan - fantastic portrait, infact a portrait that only a dad is priviliged to capture, I think.

Lou , all I did was paste the original onto a larger white canvas after desaturation.
Then used the eraser tool, select one of the sponge brushes in the PS brush pallet , this gives the irregular edge.For the scratches I used paint brush set at 1 pixel in size and clicked mouse while moving fast across picture.
