Bart, the original slide is sharper, so it's in the scan. I use a Nikon Coolscan IV film scanner, and I calibrate it regularly. Maybe it has dust on its lens, not sure if that could cause lack of sharpness, anyone know? Not that I could do much, as the lens is inaccessible for dust removal.

Diana, it's not terribly inaccessible, IF you're somehow in Santiago! A 2-hour drive to the trailhead, then a somewhat steep 3-4 hour hike. No climbing, just hiking. The elevation is maybe 2600 meters.
