there is in the manual of 300D how to set the custom white balance. Basically first you shot a white paper, and then you go to set white balance, custom, choose the image as the reference for custom white balance. You can choose any image actually, sometimes I did not use the white paper image, but image that rather reddish.
then when you take the shot, do not forget to set your WB to this custom WB.
with R72, it is dark, therefore you focus first before put the filter, then try long exposure, this is quite try and error. :)

Hi Cessy!
I read earlier that you set a custom white balance using a piece of paper. Could you explain a little more about the process involved in doing this, I'm not too sure how you went about it.
Managed to pick up a Hoya R72 today, but it was dark by the time I got home. Hoping to have some fun in the morning.

Love this photo! I've been taking pictures with an EOS 300 for years and I recently acquired a 300D. I hadn't realized that you could take IR photos with it, so now I'm off to get an R72 filter and give it a go.
The trees have come out fantastically, it has a real otherworldly feel. Good work!

thanks Mark, yes the infrared filter can be used also in film camera. I heard it may gives even better result than the digital ones.

whoa... haveto agree with the others. This one is a nice example of colour IR photos. A bit blur to my liking but I understand the difficuties of IR filter...

Hi cessy,regarding the IR filters: the hoya R 72
which you use very succesfully is the same as cokin p007 which is more complicated to use because of tha holder,both filters are under the same category" 89 b"
Here I can't find the hoya filter therefore I am trying to make decent shots with the cokin p007
your results are realy excellent,keep up your great work

thank you Zeev, my friend use D70 for this filter and it seems has has no problem, but with my 300D why it's still failing :((. the light from surrounding of the filter get through very easy, gave bad quality, and the use of white balance still not clear. so I expect bright sun shinny day next week-end for another try out :) will give you news after succeed :), cheers
