Though I'm about the most unfashionable person imaginable, I love shooting fashiontype images. This is my favorite model, the beautiful Barbara Cali from San Francisco. I'm constantly on the lookout for strong simple backgrounds that I can drop Barbara into. Its amasing how she has this ability to take on the characteristics of the surroundings.
The many faces of the lovely Ms.Cali - very, very nice atmosphere in your image, and Barbara's expression is just perfect. I hope to work with her again when she comes east.
I'm afraid these are all available light. Though I work with strobes in my studio, all my work is without pay for myself and I don't have an assistant, so lights on location are not an option. I wish I had someone to hold a card! Find a spot out of the direct sun but lit from the sky's reflection. Or shoot very late in the day, which gives a very brief period of time to work. Beautiful warm horizontal light, like working with a giant softbox. I've really been trying to understand natural light lately and picking the spots where it works well. Always a challenge!
Hi Ted...like the lean to this...very cool....nice series....when you shoot on location what type of lighting do you do....I'm very interested in these outdoor settings for portraits.
